HRK protests against another attack on academic freedom in Hungary

18. April 2018

“The recent publication of the names of members of the Central European University (CEU) in a Hungarian newspaper with close ties to the government is clearly an attempt at intimidation. I view this as a serious attack on academic freedom in an EU Member State,” says HRK President Horst Hippler. “I stand in support of the recent protest by the European University Association (EUA), which counts HRK and many German universities among its members.” Back in June 2017, the HRK President reached out to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in a letter sent jointly with the co-organisers of the Hamburg Transnational University Leaders Council and demanded that measures were taken to safeguard freedom within academia.
