Datasecurity

This is the English translation of the German data protection declaration. In case of deviations, the German version is decisive.

Data protection

Thank you for visiting the website of the Audit “Internationalisation of Universities”, a project organised by the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), published by the Foundation for the Promotion of the HRK.

Protecting your personal data during your visit is of great importance to us. We are therefore obliged to protect your privacy and to treat your data confidentially and in line with data protection laws. By means of this declaration, we wish to inform you which of your personal data is recorded in connection with your visit to our website and for what purposes this is used.

As changes to the law or changes to our internal processes may make it necessary to adapt this data protection declaration, we kindly request that you read this data protection declaration again during each visit where possible.

I. Personal data

Personal data is all individual entries concerning personal or factual relationships of a certain or definable person. Information which does not enable us to identify you (or only with disproportionate effort) is not considered to be personal data.

II. What data is collected and processed by us?

It is possible for you to use our internet services without being required to disclose your identity. However, personal data will be collected when you use our website. What these are, for which purposes and to what extent it is processed by us, is presented below

1. Log files

As with any use of the internet, when accessing our pages too, data traces of your use remain on our servers for technical reasons. Thereby the following data is transferred to our server by your internet browser and recorded in so-called log files:

  • The website from which you are accessing our internet pages (referrer URL)
  • The websites of our internet presence which you are visiting
  • Date and time of your access
  • Type and version of the browser used
  • The operating system used
  • The language used
  • And the internet protocol (IP) address of the device which connects to the internet.

In this form, this data cannot be traced back to a specific person. The data can be evaluated in case of misuse of our website. Your IP address is deleted by us from the log files or anonymised by us after a period of seven days. In addition, the data is evaluated for statistical purposes, whereby the IP address is anonymised beforehand (see Section 3. a).

2. Cookies

Cookies are used on our website to make our website more attractive to visitors and to enable the use of certain functions. These are small text files, which are stored on your computer. Most cookies installed by our website are deleted from your hard drive again, once the browser session has come to an end (so-called session cookies). Other cookies remain on your computer and enable us to recognise your computer once again next time you visit (so-called permanent cookies).

Should you not wish for cookies to be saved on your computer, please deactivate the storage of cookies in your browser for our website or set your browser in such a way that cookies are not generally stored on your computer.

The deactivation of cookies may make it necessary to store a permanent cookie on your computer. Should these cookies then be deleted by you, you must carry out the deactivation once again.

The following cookies are used on our internet site (the following information may be provided on a sub-website):

a. Session ID

In order to make browsing our website easier, we use a so-called session identifier, which is assigned to each visitor at the start of any use of our website. This session identifier enables our server to recognise your computer/browser as the same visitor, even if the IP address has changed in the meantime. This session identifier makes it possible to assign several related requests of a user to one session. The session identifier cookie used by us is only valid until the end of a session. This is automatically deleted when your browser is closed.

b. Piwik Cookie

In order to generate web statistics, we use permanent cookies from the web statistics software Piwik. You can find further information about this under point II. 3. a.

3. Web statistics

a. Piwik

This website uses Piwik, open source software for the statistical evaluation of user access. Piwik is based on the use of cookies, JavaScript and tracking pixels and enables us to analyse your use of our website. In this process, the data specified under II and 1 is collected via Piwik. The information concerning your use of our website which is saved in the cookies, is only transferred to servers for which we are responsible. There is no transfer to other servers.

Your IP address is immediately anonymised after processing and prior to its storage on servers for which we are responsible. As a result, it is not possible for us to assign the data collected by means of Piwik to a specific person. You are free to choose in your browser as to whether the Piwik cookie may be saved on your computer or not. Should you decide against this, please click the following link in order to store the Piwik deactivation cookie in your browser.

You can also prevent the storage of the Piwik cookie by generally deactivating the storage of cookies in the browser used by you. The JavaScript and tracking pixels collect various information concerning the visitor's computer (for example IP address, the time of accessing the pages, the browser type and the existence of cookies that were previously set by the same server). Tracking pixels are, however, only applied if the use of JavaScript has been deactivated in your browser.

You have the option of deactivating JavaScript access in your browser. In addition, you can deactivate the tracking pixels by rejecting or deactivating the associated cookies.

III. Links

Our website contains so-called hyperlinks to websites of other providers. If you follow these by clicking on them, you will be directly forwarded from our website to that of another provider. You can recognise this by the change of the URL amongst other things. We cannot assume responsibility for the confidential handling of your personal data by these providers, since we have no influence on this.

IV. Your rights

You have the right to free of charge information concerning your data stored by us, as well as to a right to the correction, blocking or deletion of this data where applicable. Therefore, you can object to the use of your data at any time, without incurring any costs other than those for the transfer in accordance with the basic tariffs. In case of queries concerning the collection, processing or use of your personal data or should you require information concerning the correction, blocking or deletion of data, please contact us via: Stiftung zur Förderung der Hochschulrektorenkonferenz Ahrstrasse 39 53175 Bonn Tel: +49/(0)228/887-100 Fax: +49/(0)228/887-280 Email: postnospam-hrk.de
