The Audit “Internationalisation of Universities” is a project organised by the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
Services for German universities
The project offers services to all HRK member institutions. Its key elements are the Audit and Re-Audit advisory tools. Further, the project regularly organises conferences and workshops on the topic of university internationalisation.
The findings from the Audits and events are systematically collected, analysed, and made available to the public in the form of brochures and other information material.
Networking and mutual learning
A further aim of the project is to enhance networking among universities. On the one hand, this is facilitated through conferences and workshops organised for institutions participating in the Audit process. On the other hand, the success stories depict various examples of how internationalisation has succeeded in practice. These provide the opportunity for mutual learning and a direct exchange of experience.
Fresh impetus for the higher education system
The aggregated findings allow conclusions to be drawn for the higher education system as a whole. On the basis of these meta-findings, need of action and funding with regard to further internationalisation is revealed. This can then be discussed with the relevant government departments and funding organisations.
In 2013, the project was evaluated by Evaluationsagentur Baden-Württemberg (evalag). The report can be found here (in German only).
