Audit
„Internationalisation of Higher Education Institutions“

By developing the audit the German Rectors' Conference supports its member higher education institutions (HEI) in defining their specific international profile.

The audit offers:

1. Identification of the status quo of internationalisation,

2. Identification of the institution's goals, or further development of already defined goals,

3. (Further) development of the internationalisation strategy and recommendation of possible instruments for implementing the strategy,

4. A sustainable perspective in the development of such instruments.

By audit we understand a voluntary, independent, and systematic analysis of internationalisation processes at a HEI. The audit offers information to the institution’s administration on the performance and effectiveness of the measures for internationalisation as well as on the capacity for their further development.

The analysis aims to:

a) determine which internationalisation goals, in accordance with its comprehensive profile, the HEI pursuits (purpose), and how these goals are to be evaluated in reference to the generally acknowledged internationalisation objectives and expectations;

b) assess whether the measures the HEI has undertaken adequately serve the purpose of reaching the internationalisation goals the institution itself has defined (fit for purpose);

c) advise the HEI as to which further measurements could be useful for the achievement of the defined objectives, and respectively, how the undertaken measures could be more effectively applied (expanding and further developing the measures);

d) assist the HEI in sustainably implementing the measures.

The audit will be carried out by a HRK-team including international consultants with an excellent reputation, together with a project team designated by the higher education institution. This team would comprise not only the institution’s management but also all the other players at the HEI involved in the process of internationalisation.

Depending on the specific situation of the HEI, the emphasis of the audit will be placed either on developing and implementing the instruments for internationalisation or on evaluating and further developing the internationalisation instruments already in place.
