HRK focusses its work in the international sector on the following internationalisation aims of German higher education institutions:
In November 2009, the General Meeting of the German Rectors' Conference (Hochschulrektorenkonferenz - HRK) adopted a National Code of Conduct on Foreign Students at German Universities. The Code of Conduct was developed by a joint working group of HRK and DAAD in the framework of GATE Germany.
With the Audit "Internationalisation of Higher Education Institutions" the German Rectors' Conference supports its member higher education institutions in defining and developing their specific international profile.
In the framework of its strategic plan to internationalise German science and innovation the German Government, represented by the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, developed a concept for establishing German Houses of Science and Innovation in five locations worldwide (Tokyo, Moscow, Sao Paulo, New Delhi and New York).
HRK’s Higher Education Compass contains a regularly updated list of existing cooperation agreements between German and foreign higher education institutions. Furthermore, a complete list of the study programmes offered at German higher education institutions can be found. You may run specific queries.
In cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) the German Rectors' Conference established the consortium GATE-Germany, which supports German higher education institutions to professionalise their international higher education marketing.
Information on fellowships and awards for internationally mobile researchers can be found on the website of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Also EURAXESS Germany (part of the European network EURAXESS Service Centres) is located at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which offers information and assistance for research periods in Germany.
Practical information for foreign students and academics on living in Germany (visa regulations, insurance, living costs etc.) can be found at Campus Germany.
For alumni of German higher education institutions and former scholarship holders of German funding organisations we recommend the "Alumni Portal Deutschland".
