The ASSIST procedure presently applies to most undergraduate studies at ASSIST member institutions. It facilitates the process of applying to German higher education institutions, reduces duplication in application processing, and saves time and resources for both applicants and institutions.
ASSIST assesses the formal eligibility for admission in terms of required secondary school qualifications (or higher) and language proficiency.
The ASSIST procedure does not apply to applications for graduate studies, including doctoral studies, bilateral or multilateral international exchange schemes of institutions, and certain specialized study programs.
Applications fulfilling formal admissions standards will be forwarded by ASSIST to all institutions requested by applicants. ASSIST does not make any admission decision; final selection and admission remain with the institution for which the application was filed.
ASSIST was founded in late 2003 by 42 German universities and universities of applied sciences in cooperation with the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Membership of additional institutions to participate in the ASSIST procedure is anticipated in the course of 2004.
The full operation of ASSIST is scheduled to start in May 2004 with the acceptance of applications for studies beginning in Winter Semester 2004/2005.
Detailed information and advice to applicants on ASSIST procedures and application fees may be found on the ASSIST homepage www.uni-assist.de.
